Knowing Parkour

Parkour is an urban sport which deals with traversing obstacles of any kind only with the help of body in a very fast and efficient manner with skills that include running, wall scaling, vaulting, swinging, rolling, jumping and climbing. The word ‘traceur’ is derived from the Parisian slang ‘tracer’ which means ‘to hurry’ and refers to a person who practices parkour. It all started when a former naval officer called George Hebert became astonished by the physical development and skills of the tribes in Africa as he executed the escape of nearly 700 people during a volcanic eruption in Mount Pelee. Later this non-competitive sport was practised by the French soldiers.
